Challenge:
The University of Kansas Health System faced a critical need to expand cancer treatment services in the Kansas City Northland, as existing clinics were operating beyond capacity. To meet rising patient demand and alleviate pressure on other facilities, a new treatment site was designed to meet community healthcare needs. Incorporating a full pharmacy and lab into the scope added complexity, requiring highly efficient design coordination. With patient access as the top priority, the design team recommended a phased approach for project success.
Solution:
Pulse Design Group collaborated with The University of Kansas Health System to deliver a phased cancer treatment clinic and infusion center within a 10,940 SF renovated space at Briarcliff. Phase 1 prioritized the clinic, which includes 10 exam rooms, two consult rooms, and full laboratory and phlebotomy services, allowing providers to begin seeing patients as quickly as possible. Phase 2 encompasses the infusion suite with 20 open bays, two private infusion rooms, and a 4-hood compounding pharmacy. Designed with flexibility, efficiency, and patient-centered care in mind, the new facility expands the health system’s footprint in the Northland and enhances access to timely, comprehensive oncology services.
