Challenge:
Labette Health, a rural hospital in Parsons, Kansas, faced challenges with aging, undersized inpatient units, and outdated MEP infrastructure. An additional operating room was also needed to accommodate surgical patient volume. However, the proposed renovation posed significant disruption to patient care and did not sufficiently address infrastructure upgrades.
Solution:
Pulse Design Group developed an alternate functional, infrastructure upgrade, and phased construction that minimized ongoing patient care impact and maximized efficiency. By converting the underutilized 2nd Floor South wing into a new Obstetric Unit, Pulse Design Group developed a seamless construction phasing sequence, eliminating disruptive “renovate in place” work, which enabled an efficient, one-time move for the Orthopedic Unit, OB Unit, and ICU, and temporary relocation for the Medical/Surgical Unit before moving into the renovated space.
The renovation improved efficiency, simplified phasing, and incorporated significant infrastructure upgrades. The result is increased capacity, occupant comfort, and long-term flexibility for Labette Health’s inpatient units.
